Trophy Presentation Sparks Controversy After Asia Cup Final

 September 29, 2025

DUBAI: India’s victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium was followed by an unexpected off-field controversy surrounding the trophy presentation.

According to sources, the Indian team showed reluctance in receiving the trophy directly from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Reports suggest the move was influenced by directives from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Despite the situation, Chairman Naqvi remained firm on his role as the official presenter of the trophy and proceeded with the ceremony as planned. His decision drew attention across the cricketing world, as it highlighted the continuing challenges in cricket diplomacy between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, another unusual moment occurred when Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha did not exchange a handshake at the toss. It was the third such incident during the tournament, adding to the narrative of rising tension between the sides.

On the field, India delivered a strong performance, chasing down the target to win the final by five wickets and lift their ninth Asia Cup title. While the cricketing action thrilled fans, the post-match moments ensured the final will also be remembered for events beyond the boundary line.
