Home turf humiliation: Pakistan whitewashed by Bangladesh, lose Rawalpindi Test by 6 wickets

Bangladesh secured a historic 2-0 series sweep against Pakistan, winning the second Test by six wickets in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

Key contributions from Zakir Hasan (40), Najmul Hossain Shanto (38), and Mominul Haq (34) helped Bangladesh chase down the 185-run target with more than a session to spare.

Starting the final day at 42-0, Bangladesh steadily moved towards the target. Pakistan made early breakthroughs, with Mir Hamza bowling Hasan and Khurram Shahzad dismissing Shadman Islam, but Bangladesh remained in control as they reached 100 runs in the 29th over.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque solidified their position with a 50-run partnership, but both were dismissed after lunch. However, veterans Mushfiqur Rahim (22*) and Shakib Al Hasan (21*) guided the team to victory, with Shakib sealing the win by hitting a boundary off spinner Abrar Ahmed.

This win followed Bangladesh’s earlier surprise victory in Rawalpindi, marking their first win against Pakistan in 14 Tests. The series win was only Bangladesh’s third away from home, following triumphs over the West Indies in 2009 and Zimbabwe in 2021.

On the fourth day, Bangladesh’s bowlers shone, with Hasan Mahmud (5-43) and Nahid (4-44) delivering career-best performances to dismiss Pakistan for 172 in their second innings. Openers Hasan and Islam took Bangladesh to 42 without loss before play was interrupted by bad light.

Earlier, Bangladesh mounted an impressive comeback after being reduced to 26-6 in reply to Pakistan’s first innings score of 274. A 165-run partnership between Liton Das (138) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78) helped them recover to 262.

Pakistan’s second innings saw a quick collapse, with Nahid dismissing key players including skipper Masood and Babar Azam. Despite brief resistance, Pakistan couldn’t build momentum, setting up Bangladesh’s successful chase and memorable series win.
