Pakistan Drops to Lowest Test Ranking in 60 Years After Shock Defeat to Bangladesh
KARACHI: Pakistan’s cricket team has reached its lowest Test ranking in nearly six decades, following a surprising 2-0 series defeat to Bangladesh, according to the International Cricket Council (ICC). The defeat, which saw Pakistan lose by six wickets in the second Test in Rawalpindi, marked Bangladesh’s first-ever series win against Pakistan.
The ICC revealed that Pakistan fell two places in the rankings, dropping from sixth to eighth, marking their worst position since 1965. The latest rankings place Australia at the top, followed by India and England, with Bangladesh now sitting in ninth place.
The defeat has also impacted individual player rankings, with no Pakistan bowler currently ranked in the top 10. Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi dropped from ninth to 11th after the series, while wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan remains the only Pakistani player in the top 10 batting rankings. Babar Azam, previously ranked ninth, fell three spots to 12th after managing only 64 runs in the two-Test series against Bangladesh.
This series loss has highlighted significant challenges for Pakistan’s cricket team, both in terms of performance and rankings.
