IOC expresses gratitude to France and Paris 2024 for Olympic Games of a new era

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) expressed its heartfelt thanks to the people of France for their essential role in making the Olympic Games Paris 2024 a spectacular success.

During an emotional event held at the headquarters of the Organising Committee, just a day after the Closing Ceremony, key contributors were recognized by IOC President Thomas Bach, IOC Coordination Commission Chair Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant, and other IOC leaders.

President Bach reflected on the unforgettable experience of the Games, saying, “It will take time for all of us to fully absorb the emotions, experiences, hospitality, and smiles we’ve shared over these past two weeks.” He praised the continuous improvement of the Games each day, attributing this success to the dedication and unity of the French people.

Bach also commended the collaboration across various levels of government, emphasizing that their support and commitment were crucial to the Games’ success. He extended special thanks to Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, for his exceptional leadership. Bach noted Estanguet’s ability to foster teamwork even during challenging moments, saying, “Chapeau, Tony, and to the entire team at the Organising Committee.”

During the event, several leading figures received the Olympic Order, the highest honor given by the IOC for outstanding contributions to sport and the Olympic Movement. The recipients included Tony Estanguet, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, Île-de-France Regional Council President Valerie Pecresse, and several other key officials who played pivotal roles in the Games’ success.

The French National Olympic and Sports Committee was awarded the IOC President’s Trophy, titled “Sky is the Limit,” in recognition of its role in helping France achieve a record-breaking 64 medals during the Games.

In addition to these honors, commemorative pins were presented to local security forces and Organising Committee members. A special tribute was paid to volunteers, with Josselin Pecher and 92-year-old Michele Senechat recognized on behalf of the 45,000 volunteers who made the Games possible.

The event concluded with President Bach acknowledging the tireless efforts of Paris 2024 Coordination Commission Chair Pierre-Olivier Beckers-Vieujant, presenting him with a set of Paris 2024 medals as a token of gratitude.
