Jamie Vardy Joins Italian Serie A Club Cremonese After 13 Years at Leicester

MILAN: English striker Jamie Vardy is set to continue his career in Italy after 13 memorable seasons with Leicester City, highlighted by the club’s miraculous Premier League title in 2016.

The 38-year-old forward has signed with newly promoted Serie A side Cremonese on a contract through June next year, with an option for renewal, the club confirmed Tuesday.

Vardy announced his departure from Leicester in April and celebrated his 500th and final appearance for the club with a farewell goal, marking his 200th goal for the Foxes.

Vardy famously scored in 11 consecutive matches during Leicester’s historic 2015-16 title run, a campaign that defied 5,000-1 preseason odds and became one of soccer’s greatest underdog stories.

Cremonese, recently promoted after winning the Serie B playoffs, opened their Serie A season with a shock victory over AC Milan and secured another dramatic win against Sassuolo on Friday, maintaining a perfect start.
