Padres reliever Jason Adam carted off field with ruptured quadriceps tendon

Padres Reliever Jason Adam Suffers Season-Ending Injury

SAN DIEGO: San Diego Padres reliever Jason Adam suffered a serious injury Monday, rupturing a tendon in his left quadriceps during a 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Adam was carted off the field in the seventh inning and will need an MRI to confirm the severity. Early reports suggest a recovery timeline of six to nine months, likely ending his season.

Adam, one of the Padres’ All-Star relievers, expressed optimism about the team’s deep bullpen despite his injury. “Of all the bullpens in the league to not need me, it’s this one,” he said. “I’m excited to cheer those guys on. It’s a family out there.”

The injury comes at a crucial time as San Diego chases the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, currently 2½ games ahead. The Padres also hold the second National League wild-card spot.

Adam, along with closer Robert Suarez and left-hander Adrián Morejón, made the Padres the first team in MLB history to send three relievers to the All-Star Game.

Padres GM A.J. Preller added key bullpen depth with recent trade acquisitions, including hard-throwing Mason Miller from the Athletics, who was an All-Star in 2024. Adam praised Miller, saying the team remains strong despite his injury.
