Karachi Sharbat Vendor Arrested in Shocking Child Abuse Case
Karachi: A disturbing case has emerged in Karachi where a sharbat vendor has been arrested for allegedly abusing over 100 minor girls over several years, police confirmed on Thursday.
Arrest and Breakthrough
The suspect, originally from Abbottabad and residing in Karachi since 2016, was caught by locals in the Qayyumabad area and handed over to the Defence Police. The arrest followed a courageous act by a survivor, who recovered a USB drive from the suspect’s home. The device reportedly contained incriminating videos, which were shared with a shopkeeper, prompting immediate community action.
Police Investigation
According to South SSP Mahzoor Ali, the suspect confessed during interrogation to targeting girls between the ages of 7 and 13. He admitted his actions began in 2016 and escalated from 2019 onwards. Police revealed that he manipulated victims into introducing other children to him, with some subjected to repeated abuse.
Vulnerable Targets
Authorities said the suspect primarily targeted the daughters of domestic workers and low-income families, luring them with small amounts of money or other incentives. Using his cover as a sharbat vendor, he gained the trust of vulnerable children in the neighborhood.
Evidence Recovered
Investigators recovered nearly 100 video clips and a diary documenting names and dates of victims. This evidence is being analyzed to determine the scale of the crimes and whether the suspect was linked to any larger network.
Legal Action and Medical Tests
So far, four cases have been registered, with survivors — including two sisters — identified. Medical examinations are being conducted to support the investigation. Police are also probing whether the suspect attempted to sell the videos online and whether others may have been involved. A close associate of the suspect, who reportedly died in an accident, is also under scrutiny.
Public Reaction
The case has deeply shocked residents of Karachi, sparking demands for strict justice and stronger measures to protect children. Police have appealed to the public to share any information that could help expose the full extent of the crimes.
