Alexander Isak’s Future at Newcastle Uncertain Amid Liverpool Interest
Swedish striker Alexander Isak’s position at Newcastle United appears uncertain, as reports suggest he was recently told to train away from the main squad. The 25-year-old forward has been linked with a record-breaking move to Liverpool, adding more intrigue to the summer transfer window.
According to Sky Sports, Isak was instructed to train separately after missing the Magpies’ pre-season tours to Singapore and South Korea. The player cited a minor thigh issue and instead traveled to Spain to train with his former club, Real Sociedad.
While he has since returned to Newcastle, this latest development has sparked speculation. Manager Eddie Howe previously emphasized discipline, stating:
“You have to earn the right to train with us. We are Newcastle United. No player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal.”
Liverpool’s £110 Million Bid Rejected
Reports indicate that Liverpool made a £110 million ($146 million) offer for Isak, which Newcastle turned down. The club is said to be holding out for closer to £150 million as they assess potential replacements.
Newcastle’s efforts to sign a new striker have faced obstacles. The club missed out on targets such as Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike, and Liam Delap, and now face competition from Manchester United for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Liverpool’s Transfer Activity Heats Up
Liverpool have been busy in the transfer market, spending over £250 million this summer. Key signings include:
-
Hugo Ekitike
-
Florian Wirtz
-
Milos Kerkez
-
Jeremie Frimpong
At the same time, the club has raised significant funds by selling players like Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Tyler Morton. Striker Darwin Nunez is also close to completing a £46 million move to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, potentially creating both financial and tactical space for another marquee signing.
Isak’s Impact at Newcastle
Since his arrival in 2022 for £63 million, Alexander Isak has made a strong impression with 62 goals in 109 appearances. One of his standout moments was scoring the decisive goal in the League Cup final against Liverpool, helping Newcastle secure their first domestic trophy in 70 years.
