Mets Prospect Brandon Sproat Delivers Another Solid Outing After Earning Pitcher of the Month Honors
Fresh off being named International League Pitcher of the Month for July, top Mets pitching prospect Brandon Sproat continued to impress with a strong start to his August campaign.
Taking the mound for Triple-A Syracuse against the Charlotte Knights — the Chicago White Sox’s affiliate — Sproat opened his outing in dominant fashion. He cruised through a quick 1-2-3 first inning, notching a strikeout and displaying sharp command.
Strong Start With Excellent Control
In the second inning, the 24-year-old right-hander worked around a two-out double, keeping his focus and control intact. He followed that with an even more efficient third inning, needing just nine pitches — all strikes — to retire the side. Through the first three frames, Sproat threw only five balls, showcasing the command that earned him league honors.
Mid-Game Challenge and Offensive Surge
Sproat ran into a bit of trouble in the fourth after issuing his first walk of the game. He reached three-ball counts on his next two batters but managed to record back-to-back groundouts, then ended the inning with another ground ball out.
Meanwhile, the Syracuse offense exploded in the bottom of the fourth. The team batted around and scored six runs, opening the frame with eight straight hitters reaching base — including seven consecutive hits off Knights reliever Chase Plymell.
Minor Setback, Strong Finish
Following the long offensive inning, Sproat returned for the fifth but looked slightly off rhythm. He gave up three runs on a walk, wild pitch, double, and a two-run home run. Despite the brief stumble, he bounced back in the sixth with a clean 11-pitch inning, wrapping up his night.
Final Line: 6 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts
Total Pitches: 84 (53 strikes)
Season ERA: Slight increase from 4.07 to 4.10
Innings Pitched in 2025: 101
Eyes on a Big League Call-Up
Currently ranked the No. 5 prospect in the Mets’ system (per SNY’s Joe DeMayo), Sproat continues to build a strong case for a Major League promotion. With consistent performances like this and over 100 innings under his belt this season, he’s emerging as a key piece in the Mets’ pitching future.
