OGDCL Strikes New Oil Discovery in Sindh’s Tando Allah Yar District
Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (PSX: OGDC) has made a significant oil discovery at the Chakar-1 exploratory well, located in the Tando Allah Yar district of Sindh.
The discovery was made under the Tando Allah Yar Exploration License (TAY E.L), where OGDCL holds a 95% operating interest. The remaining 5% interest is carried by Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL).
🛢️ Exploration & Drilling Milestone
-
Drilling at Chakar-1 began on June 2, 2025
-
The well reached a total depth of 1,926 meters, targeting the Upper Shale of the Lower Goru Formation
Based on wireline log interpretations and Reservoir Evaluation Services (RES) data, a Drill Stem Test (DST) was conducted in the B-Sand formation.
💡 Promising Test Results
Using an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP), the well successfully flowed:
-
275 barrels of oil per day (BOPD)
-
Through a 32/64-inch choke
-
At a wellhead flowing pressure of 400 psi
🔍 Further Exploration Underway
In addition to the B-Sand, oil was also encountered in the Lower Ranikot Formation. A second DST with ESP is currently in progress to assess the full hydrocarbon potential of the formation.
📈 Strategic Impact
This latest discovery further strengthens OGDCL’s position as Pakistan’s leading oil and gas exploration company. It also enhances the country’s prospects for domestic energy security, reducing reliance on imported oil.
