Stephen Constantine Linked with Possible Return to India Amid Uncertainty with Pakistan Football
Stephen Constantine, the head coach of the Pakistan football team, is reportedly facing uncertainty with the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) and is being linked with a potential return to India.
Unclear Future with Pakistan
Sources in local media suggest that Constantine’s future with Pakistan remains uncertain. Although he has expressed interest in continuing to lead the Pakistan Men’s National Team through the upcoming Asian Cup Qualifiers, the PFF has yet to provide clear confirmation about extending his contract.
In recent years, Pakistan’s football performance has declined under his tenure, adding to speculation about a possible coaching change.
India’s Coaching Vacancy Sparks Interest
Meanwhile, India is searching for a new head coach following the resignation of Manolo Marquez, who stepped down after one year despite a two-year contract. Marquez’s departure has fueled talks of Stephen Constantine returning to India for a second stint.
Constantine, who coached India from 2015 to 2019, is still highly regarded in the country. Reports indicate that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) will soon announce the head coach position, with Constantine believed to be one of the top candidates.
Constantine’s Impact in Pakistan
Since his appointment in September 2023, Stephen Constantine led Pakistan through a historic World Cup qualifying campaign, marking the team’s first-ever win in World Cup qualifiers. Despite this achievement, the team’s overall performance decline may have prompted the PFF to consider new options.
What’s Next?
With the PFF, AIFF, and Constantine all seeking clarity, a decision on his next coaching role could come soon.
