Pakistan Hockey Players Await International Allowances Amid Financial Crunch
LAHORE: Players from the Pakistan national hockey team have voiced concerns over delayed international daily allowances, expressing that the current financial situation is making it difficult for them to manage basic household expenses.
According to sources, while domestic allowances have been paid, the international per diem—set at PKR 30,000 per day—has not yet been disbursed. This delay has persisted for over six weeks following the conclusion of the FIH Nations Cup, leaving players uncertain about when they will receive their full dues.
“We remain fully committed to representing Pakistan in international tournaments,” shared players on condition of anonymity. “But with rising living costs, relying only on the domestic allowance of PKR 3,000 per day is simply not sustainable.”
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Tariq Bugti confirmed that domestic allowances have been cleared but admitted that the federation is currently facing a financial crunch.
“We informed the players before the Nations Cup that we were utilizing our savings to send the team abroad,” Bugti explained. “At the moment, funds are limited, but the international allowances will be paid as soon as finances allow.”
The situation comes as the PHF seeks to secure participation in the upcoming FIH Pro League. Last month, the international governing body extended an invitation to Pakistan’s men’s team after New Zealand opted out despite winning the Nations Cup. However, the PHF has requested more time to confirm its participation, with the final deadline set for August 12.
Officials remain hopeful that financial constraints can be addressed in time, allowing the players to be compensated fairly and enabling Pakistan’s return to top-tier international hockey competitions.
