Punjab Floods: Drones Aid Rescue as 700,000 Evacuated
Punjab, Pakistan – Emergency teams are using drones to locate people stranded on rooftops amid widespread flooding in Punjab, as authorities ramp up what they describe as the largest rescue operation in the province’s history.
So far, more than 700,000 residents and 500,000 farm animals have been evacuated, according to the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Rescue operations involve the military and emergency services, working around the clock to reach isolated communities.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rainfall across flood-hit districts. Rivers overflowing from weeks of above-average rain and excess dam releases from India have submerged low-lying areas, including Multan and Jhang, where residents waded through up to 5-foot floodwaters to reach safety.
Authorities urge residents to stay alert and cooperate with rescue teams as efforts continue.
