The first meeting of the Steering Committee on Inflation was held today under the leadership of Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. The committee, formed last week by the Prime Minister, focused on addressing rising prices in Pakistan amid global economic pressures.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Impact on Vulnerable Families: High food prices are particularly affecting low-income households, including those affected by recent floods.

  • Essential Commodities Monitoring: The committee decided to closely track the supply and prices of wheat, rice, and sugar, along with crop conditions impacted by floods.

Action Points:

  • Food Stock Review: The Finance Minister directed the Ministry of National Food Security and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics to urgently assess current food stocks and coordinate with provincial governments to ensure sufficient supply.

  • Support for Vulnerable Communities: The Finance Ministry pledged full support for poor families and flood-affected areas.

  • Measures to Control Inflation: Officials were asked to propose strong steps to maintain smooth supplies and keep prices under control.

The meeting included senior officials from key ministries, the State Bank of Pakistan, and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute. A follow-up meeting is planned to implement the agreed measures.
