Relief Announced for Vehicles Without Ajrak Number Plates

Sindh Government Extends Deadline for Ajrak-Themed Number Plates to August 14

The Sindh government has extended the deadline for vehicle owners to switch to the new Ajrak-themed number plates until August 14. During this period, police will not issue fines to vehicles that have yet to update their plates.

Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, announced the extension in Karachi on Monday. He emphasized that the Ajrak design celebrates Sindh’s rich cultural heritage while also enhancing vehicle security.

No Fines Until August 14 for Ajrak Plate Non-Compliance

Minister Chawla clarified that no penalties will be imposed on vehicles without the new Ajrak number plates until the revised deadline. However, standard traffic violations such as riding without a helmet or driving without valid documentation will continue to be enforced.

The Ajrak number plates are part of the Safe City project and are being rolled out across Sindh. While the initiative has faced some public debate regarding design and legality, the government stresses that it boosts both cultural identity and road safety.

Compliance Deadline Extended for Convenience

Chawla reaffirmed the mandatory nature of the Ajrak plates and explained that the deadline extension aims to give vehicle owners additional time to comply without penalty.
