Taipeiβs Beitou Junior High Girlsβ Softball Team Wins Babe Ruth 16U World Series in the U.S.
The Taipei Municipal Beitou Junior High School girlsβ softball team made history by winning the Babe Ruth Softball 16U World Series in the United States, finishing their tournament debut undefeated.
Representing Taiwan as the βTaiwan 16Uβ team, Beitou dominated the final match with a 12-1 victory over Puerto Rico at the Florence Sportsplex in Alabama. The team achieved a flawless 7-0 record, defeating strong opponents from the U.S. and Australia between August 3 and 8 leading up to the championship game on Saturday.
Taiwanβs top leaders, including President Lai Ching-te, Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, and Taiwanβs U.S. representative Alexander Yui, congratulated the young champions on their impressive win.
Manager Chen Mei-fen praised her team for their strong strategy execution, relentless pressure on opponents, and effective scoring. She also highlighted the standout performance of two pitchers with previous international experience, along with the teamβs powerful batting lineup and solid fielding.
Chen expressed hope that this experience will boost the playersβ confidence on the global stage and help showcase Asian softball to Western audiences, as Taiwan was the tournamentβs only Asian representative.
Sophiyah Liu, Chair of the Taiwan Sport Forward Association who accompanied the team, shared her wish for the players to broaden their horizons through this international trip.
Beitou Junior High principal Chen Mei-liang credited both the athletes and coaching staff for their remarkable achievement and noted that several players from underprivileged families were able to participate thanks to generous support from overseas donors.
The team celebrated their victory with a spirited lap, proudly carrying the Republic of China (Taiwan) flag at the event.
