Tecno Unveils Phantom Ultimate G Fold: A Bold New Take on Tri-Fold Phones
Tecno has introduced its newest foldable concept phone, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold, showcasing a unique inward tri-folding design aimed at enhancing durability and screen protection. The device blends innovative engineering with a sleek profile, offering a glimpse into the potential future of foldable smartphones.
🔄 New Inward-Folding Mechanism
Unlike its predecessor, the Phantom Ultimate 2, which used an outward-folding screen, the G Fold protects its 9.94-inch main display by folding inward. This design shields the screen when closed—similar to current horizontal bi-folds—and includes a cover display for basic tasks while the device is folded.
⚙️ Refined Dual-Hinge System
Tecno has introduced a dual-hinge architecture in the G Fold:

One smaller hinge creates a teardrop fold in one-third of the display.

A larger hinge folds the remaining section over it.

A self-locking mechanism secures the phone in place when closed.
This setup results in an impressive 11.49mm thickness when folded and just 3.49mm when fully opened—slimmer than Huawei’s tri-fold model, which ranges from 12.8mm to 4.8mm in thickness.
While slightly thicker than the 11mm Phantom Ultimate 2, the G Fold’s added cover display provides improved screen protection and usability.
🔋 Battery and Build Quality
Tecno says the Phantom Ultimate G Fold houses a battery capacity of over 5,000 mAh, notable for a tri-fold device. Though slightly below Huawei’s 5,600 mAh, it demonstrates Tecno’s progress in slim battery integration.
Build materials include:

These materials support the complex folding mechanism without adding unnecessary bulk.
📸 Camera Design
The triple-camera setup is placed on the central fold, which becomes the back of the phone when closed. The hinge system also allows for flexible angles—ideal for tripod-like stability during photography.
Specific camera specs have not yet been revealed.
📅 Concept Only—for Now
Currently, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold is a concept device and not available for commercial sale. However, Tecno has confirmed plans to exhibit the device at MWC 2026, possibly alongside new additions to the Phantom V Flip and V Fold lineups.
