UEFA Hands Out Fines and Bans to Barcelona Players and Coaching Staff After Inter Clash
UEFA has imposed financial penalties and suspensions on Barcelona players and staff following their recent European match against Inter Milan.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski have each been fined €5,000 for breaching anti-doping regulations. Reports suggest both players did not immediately report for mandatory post-match testing, as required under Articles 21.8 and 21.10(a) of the governing body’s rules.
Head coach Hansi Flick and assistant Marcus Sorg have also been sanctioned. Both have received a €20,000 fine and a one-match suspension in European competitions for breaching UEFA’s general principles of conduct and violating rules on appropriate behaviour. The incident stems from Flick kicking the dugout in the closing minutes of the match, which ended in Barcelona’s elimination from the tournament. The coach later expressed frustration over what he considered unfair refereeing decisions by Polish official Szymon Marciniak.
In addition, Barcelona have been fined €5,250 for objects thrown by supporters and €2,500 for the use of fireworks during the game. All sanctions take immediate effect, meaning Flick and Sorg will be absent from the technical area for the club’s next European fixture.
