US lawmakers optimistic for stronger Pakistan ties after ‘highly productive’ visit

US Congressional Delegation Hails Successful Visit to Pakistan, Emphasizes Stronger Bilateral Ties

Islamabad – A high-level United States congressional delegation on Monday described its recent visit to Pakistan as “highly successful and productive,” expressing hope for a stronger and more dynamic partnership between the two nations in the future.

The visit, which marked the first such delegation from Capitol Hill in nearly two years, comes at a time when both countries seek to deepen cooperation in areas such as regional security, trade, and economic development.

Strategic Meetings and Focus on Shared Goals

During the visit, the delegation held key meetings with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. Discussions focused on counterterrorism efforts, defense collaboration, and strengthening economic ties.

The meetings also coincided with Pakistan’s preparations to send a high-level delegation to the United States to engage on trade matters, including addressing the recently imposed 29% tariff on certain exports.

Delegation Highlights Key Areas of Cooperation

The visiting US delegation included Congressmen Jack Bergman, Tom Suozzi, and Jonathan Jackson, with Congressman Suozzi serving as the head of the Pakistan Caucus in Congress.

According to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Congressman Jack Bergman emphasized the strategic significance of US-Pakistan relations, noting that stronger ties would not only benefit both nations but also have a positive impact on developing regions worldwide.

He highlighted the potential in mineral development as a key area of collaboration, stating, “This partnership could lay the foundation for robust industries that support global economic growth.” Bergman also underscored the role of new mining technologies and innovation in driving future industrial progress.

“Our relationship is vital because both nations believe in the principles of freedom and mutual respect,” he said.

Positive Reflections from the Delegation

Congressman Tom Suozzi praised the hospitality received in Pakistan and called the visit “remarkable.” He acknowledged the valuable contributions of the Pakistani-American community, referring to them as “ambassadors who have excelled in the United States.”

He described the diaspora as hardworking, educated, and family-oriented, and emphasized the need to strengthen economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

Congressman Jonathan Jackson echoed these sentiments, noting the spirit of faith, unity, and discipline he observed during his time in Pakistan. He expressed strong confidence in Pakistan’s future and stressed the importance of building a relationship rooted in trust and mutual growth.

“I firmly believe that Pakistan has a very bright future,” he said, reaffirming the delegation’s commitment to expanding cooperation and supporting Pakistan’s development journey.
