Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Embarks on Official Visit to Belarus to Strengthen Bilateral Ties
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has embarked on a two-day official visit to the Republic of Belarus, following an invitation from President Aleksandr Lukashenko. The visit, taking place from April 10 to 11, 2025, is aimed at enhancing cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to hold high-level discussions with President Lukashenko to review progress on bilateral initiatives and explore new avenues for collaboration.
According to the Foreign Office, the visit builds upon recent diplomatic momentum, including the 8th Session of the Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in February 2025 and a ministerial-level delegation visit to Belarus earlier this month. These engagements have laid a strong foundation for deeper strategic cooperation.
Several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit, covering diverse fields such as e-commerce, science and technology, healthcare, vocational training, and halal trade. Additional agreements will promote collaboration in environmental protection, climate change, disaster management, and legal cooperation, including an extradition treaty.
Notably, the two nations have agreed to enhance coordination in areas such as customs statistics, international transport, intelligence sharing related to financial crimes, and anti-terrorism measures.
A key highlight of the visit was the signing of the Roadmap for Comprehensive Cooperation for 2025–2027, a strategic framework designed to boost economic and diplomatic ties. This roadmap, along with 15 other MoUs and agreements, marks a major step forward in Pakistan–Belarus relations.
A joint communiqué released at the conclusion of the visit emphasized the shared commitment to fostering a strong, mutually beneficial partnership that supports sustainable development and regional stability.
