Govt Orders Faster Progress on Five Motorway and Highway Projects

NHA to Accelerate Work on Key Highway Projects as Govt Allocates Rs. 150 Billion

ISLAMABAD – July 18, 2025:
Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to expedite work on several major infrastructure projects, including M-6, M-10, and the Naran-Kaghan route, to improve nationwide connectivity.

The instructions were issued during a high-level meeting focused on the review of national highway development initiatives.

💰 Rs. 150 Billion Allocated from NHA’s Own Resources

The NHA plans to invest Rs. 150 billion in the current fiscal year from its own revenues. A major portion — Rs. 100 billion — has been allocated for the Karachi–Quetta–Chaman (N-25) highway in Balochistan, which is set to begin construction shortly.

🛣️ Focus on Modern, High-Capacity Roads

Minister Aleem Khan emphasized that all future motorways must be designed with at least six lanes, ensuring they can meet future traffic demands. He reiterated the government’s commitment to utilizing the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to attract private investment in infrastructure.

“With NHA’s increasing revenue, the time has come to deliver results on the ground,” the minister said.

🚧 Key Projects Nearing Completion

Top-priority road projects are expected to reach 90% completion by the end of the year, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to inaugurate completed sections once key milestones are met.

✅ Gilgit-Baltistan Proposals Approved

All pending infrastructure proposals for Gilgit-Baltistan were also approved. The minister called for balanced development across all provinces, highlighting the importance of addressing local needs in future planning.

🛤️ Clarification on Lahore-Kasur Road

The Lahore–Kasur Road Project was also discussed, with officials clarifying that it has no connection to Raiwind, addressing recent misinformation and public concerns.

📈 Infrastructure Development a National Priority

With massive investment in highways and a focus on regional balance, the government’s infrastructure roadmap aims to enhance economic activity, reduce travel times, and improve logistics across Pakistan.

Stay tuned for updates on ongoing and upcoming road development projects.
