Islamabad to Finally Get Its Own Cricket Stadium as Site Confirmed
Oct 24, 2025
After years of delays and uncertainty, Pakistan’s capital city is finally set to get its own international-standard cricket stadium. Interior Minister and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to immediately begin construction on the long-awaited Islamabad Cricket Stadium project.
Work to Begin Near Margalla Hills
According to official updates, the stadium will be built on 25 acres of land near Sector D-12 and Shah Allah Ditta, nestled at the base of the Margalla Hills. A 30,000-seat design proposal from Dubai has already been received, and the venue is expected to host both domestic and international matches once completed.

A Project Years in the Making
Plans for a cricket stadium in Islamabad have faced over a decade of setbacks — from legal challenges to environmental objections. Earlier proposals, such as the one for Shakarparian, were blocked by the Supreme Court, while a more recent idea to build inside F-9 Park faced public criticism. The D-12 site has now been finalized as the most feasible and scenic option.
Renewed Push from the Government
The directive from Mohsin Naqvi marks a turning point for the project. Officials confirmed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will oversee the construction, while timelines and funding details will be shared soon. The stadium is being designed as a multi-purpose complex, capable of hosting international sports events, concerts, and national celebrations.
Challenges Still Ahead
Experts note that traffic flow, security management, and environmental impact remain key concerns. Islamabad’s limited urban space and fragile ecosystem will require careful urban planning to ensure sustainability.
Despite the hurdles, optimism is high that **Islamabad—Pakistan’s only major city without a dedicated international cricket venue—**will soon have a home ground worthy of its status as the capital.
