Japan Awards $263 Million in Scholarships for Pakistani Civil Servants

In a significant boost to educational and diplomatic ties, Japan has granted $263 million to support scholarships for Pakistani civil servants under a new bilateral agreement signed on Tuesday.

The initiative, titled the “Human Resource Development Scholarship” (JDS) program, was formalized through a signing ceremony between Dr. Kazim Niaz, Secretary of Economic Affairs, and the Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan.

🎓 Scholarships for Advanced Studies in Japan

As part of the program, 16 federal government officials from Pakistan will be selected to pursue Master’s degrees at prestigious Japanese universities. The initiative is managed in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

This scholarship aims to enhance the policy-making skills and leadership capabilities of Pakistan’s public sector professionals, ultimately contributing to the country’s long-term development goals.

🤝 Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Since the launch of the JDS program in 2018, seven groups of Pakistani civil servants have already completed their studies in Japan, bringing back valuable knowledge and strengthening the people-to-people ties between the two countries.

Dr. Kazim Niaz expressed gratitude for Japan’s continued support, noting that such programs help empower individuals and build stronger institutions in Pakistan.

🌐 A Win for Public Sector Reform and Global Cooperation

This latest phase underscores Japan’s commitment to capacity building in Pakistan and showcases the growing cooperation between the two nations in the fields of education, governance, and human development.
