Lahore–Islamabad Distance to Decrease by 100 Kilometers

Lahore-Sialkot Motorway to Be Expanded and Linked to Islamabad, Says Minister

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has announced a significant infrastructure project to expand and extend the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, enhancing travel efficiency and regional connectivity.

🚧 Motorway to Be Widened and Extended to Islamabad

The motorway will be widened from four to six lanes and extended to connect Kharian with Islamabad, creating a shorter alternative to the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2).

This development is expected to reduce travel distance by nearly 100 kilometers and cut travel time by almost one hour—a major convenience for daily commuters and long-distance travelers alike.

🌐 Improved Connectivity Across Key Regions

The upgraded route will greatly benefit residents of Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kharian, Jhelum, and Gujar Khan, easing congestion on existing highways and providing a faster, safer journey.

🏗️ Focus on Quality and Timely Completion

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting at the National Highway Authority (NHA) Punjab Region Office. The minister emphasized the importance of top-quality construction and timely completion of all projects.

He also urged officials to develop a 30-year master plan to address future infrastructure needs and ensure sustainable development.

🛣️ Multan Road to Ring Road Corridor Highlighted

One of the key areas discussed was the urgent completion of the Multan Road to Ring Road corridor. The minister made it clear that any delays or compromise on construction standards would not be tolerated.

🤝 Coordination Among Departments

The meeting was attended by senior officials including the Federal Secretary for Communications, the Chairman of NHA, and the CEO of the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA). They provided updates on ongoing infrastructure projects and outlined future plans for improving transportation networks in Punjab.

This motorway upgrade reflects the government’s focus on improving connectivity, easing travel, and supporting economic growth through better road infrastructure.
