Shah Mahmood Qureshi, a central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has emphasized that political stability in Pakistan is unattainable without recognizing the significance of PTI founder Imran Khan.
During an informal discussion with journalists at Kot Lakhpat Jail, Qureshi reflected on his 40-year political career, stating that he had never faced legal charges until last year, when dozens of cases were filed against him, which he believes to be fabricated.
Qureshi addressed the importance of acknowledging Imran Khan as a key political figure in Pakistan, despite differing opinions. He asserted that understanding Khan’s role is essential for achieving stability in the country’s political landscape.
In his remarks, Qureshi also referred to the case of Nawab Akbar Bugti, describing the treatment of the late feudal lord as unjust. He clarified that Bugti was not anti-Pakistan and called for an end to the practice of labeling individuals as traitors. Qureshi criticized the casual use of such accusations over the past 75 years, suggesting it has been detrimental to the nation.
Qureshi also spoke about Mahmood Khan Achakzai, describing him as a committed democrat. He argued that individuals with democratic and constitutional beliefs should not be branded as traitors.
In his final remarks, Qureshi stressed that peace in Balochistan can only be achieved through dialogue and negotiation, advocating for a more inclusive and communicative approach to resolving the region’s challenges.
