Villarreal Signs Ghana Midfielder Thomas Partey Amid Ongoing Legal Proceedings
Villarreal, Spain — Spanish football club Villarreal CF has announced the signing of Thomas Partey, the Ghanaian international midfielder, for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
The 32-year-old joins Villarreal as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Arsenal FC in June 2025. Known for his strength, vision, and midfield control, Partey brings with him a wealth of experience from both the Premier League and La Liga.
Club Statement on Legal Proceedings
In its official statement, Villarreal addressed the ongoing legal case involving Partey, who was granted bail earlier this week after appearing before Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London. The player faces charges related to incidents alleged to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.
“The player firmly maintains his innocence and denies all charges against him. The club respects the fundamental principle of the presumption of innocence and will await the outcome of the judicial process,” the club stated.
Due to legal restrictions in the United Kingdom, Villarreal noted that it will not offer further comment on the matter at this time.
Commitment to Values
Villarreal also used the opportunity to reinforce its values, saying:
“The club wishes to clearly reiterate its strong commitment to respect and diversity and firmly condemns any act of violence in all its forms, including gender-based violence, discrimination, racism, xenophobia, or any behavior that undermines the dignity of individuals.”
Looking Ahead
As legal proceedings continue in the UK, Thomas Partey is expected to begin training with Villarreal in preparation for the new season. The club has not commented on whether his legal situation will affect his availability on the pitch.
