Pakistan Captain Salman Ali Agha Urges Aggression Ahead of Asia Cup Final Against India
Pakistan men’s cricket captain Salman Ali Agha said on Saturday that he welcomed his players showing aggression on the field, as the team prepares for its historic Asia Cup 2025 final against India. This will be the first time the two sides meet in an Asia Cup final.
After two earlier defeats to India in the tournament, Pakistan bounced back with a close 11-run victory over Bangladesh in their last Super Four match on Thursday, sealing a place in the title clash.
Salman’s Remarks on Aggression
Speaking at the pre-match press conference in Dubai, Salman stated:
“Every individual has their own way. If a player wants to be aggressive, then why not? If you take aggression away from a fast bowler, then there’s nothing left.”
He clarified that while he allows his players freedom on the field, respect must be maintained.
“Every player knows how to deal with their emotions. I give the players a free hand unless they are disrespecting someone or our country,” he added.
Handshake Controversy
When asked about reports of Indian players refusing customary post-match handshakes, Salman said he had never experienced such a situation in his career.
“I’ve been playing since 2007, and I don’t think there has ever been an instance of teams not shaking hands,” he remarked.
Media Reports and ICC Actions
Addressing speculation that India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav skipped the captains’ photoshoot, Salman said:
“That’s their choice, we have our own protocols. If he wants to attend, he can — if not, that’s up to him.”
Meanwhile, the ICC recently sanctioned Suryakumar Yadav over remarks made after India’s earlier group-stage match against Pakistan. According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had filed a complaint, citing inappropriate references during the tournament.
In related developments, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf was fined 30% of his match fee for an on-field gesture, while opener Sahibzada Farhan received a warning.
Looking Ahead to the Final
Salman expressed confidence that his team is ready for the final, saying he hopes Pakistan have “saved their best for the final.”
The Asia Cup 2025 final between Pakistan and India will take place on Sunday, September 28, at the Dubai International Stadium.
