Canada Stages Stunning Comeback to Reach Semi-Finals at The World Games 2025
Team Canada delivered a dramatic comeback to defeat Singapore 9-8 and book their place in the semi-finals of The World Games in Chengdu, China. After trailing 7-1 early in the game, the Canadian squad turned the tide with explosive offense and clutch pitching to seal the must-win match.
Early Struggles and a Powerful Turnaround
Singapore came out swinging, scoring four runs in the first inning, followed by two more in the second and another in the third, building a commanding 7-1 lead. However, Canada responded in style.
The comeback began in the bottom of the third, when Ty Sebastian blasted a two-run homerun. In the fourth inning, Canada added three more runs — thanks to an RBI double by Mitch McKay, a wild pitch, and a defensive error by Singapore — narrowing the gap to 8-6.
Then came the game-changing moment: Max Major launched a towering three-run homerun in the fifth inning to give Canada their first lead of the game at 9-8.
Pitching Masterclass Seals the Deal
With momentum on Canada’s side, Sean Cleary took control on the mound. The veteran pitcher was dominant over the final three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight batters to secure the victory and earn the win.
