After a week of severe waterlogging in Islamabad’s high-security Diplomatic Enclave, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has successfully drained stagnant water from the area, restoring normal activity in one of the city’s most sensitive zones.
Hidden Drainage Line Discovered After Deep Excavation
The flooding was traced back to a buried drainage line, hidden beneath layers of construction debris and soil. According to CDA officials, the blockage was discovered 40 feet underground, near the Srinagar Highway, following extensive excavation efforts.
The issue originated during the construction of the Jinnah Square Interchange, where excess construction waste was dumped. This led to the neglect of a critical drainage channel, especially in a low-lying section of the enclave, causing the water system to fail completely.
Holland Embassy Among Worst Affected
The Holland Embassy was the most affected by the water accumulation, with its front entrance submerged and operations briefly suspended. Staff continued working through the back entrance while the front remained closed for three days. Fortunately, no other diplomatic missions reported serious disruptions, according to CDA statements.
Round-the-Clock Operations by CDA
CDA teams worked tirelessly over the past week, using heavy machinery to remove debris and restore the water flow. Officials have now confirmed that the drainage system is fully operational, with water flowing without further obstruction.
