AIOU Launches Three New BS Programs in E-Commerce, Psychology, and Political Science

ISLAMABAD – The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has announced the launch of three new Bachelor of Science (BS) degree programs:

  • BS E-Commerce

  • BS Psychology

  • BS Political Science

These new offerings fall under the university’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, aiming to broaden academic choices for students across Pakistan.

Expanding Opportunities in Higher Education

The decision to introduce these programs was made during a recent Faculty Board meeting, chaired by Dean Dr. Abdul Aziz Sahir. The board also approved updated curricula for undergraduate, MPhil, PhD, and other postgraduate programs, ensuring they remain aligned with current academic and professional standards.

According to a university press release, the updates are designed to meet the evolving needs of students in both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and on-campus modes.


Focus on Quality & National Values

Dean Dr. Sahir emphasized that all academic offerings will fully comply with Higher Education Commission (HEC) guidelines. Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Nasir Mahmood, AIOU remains committed to delivering accessible and high-quality education.

He further highlighted the integration of Fahm-ul-Quran and Seerat-un-Nabi courses in all degree programs, as per government policy. In future semesters, AIOU also plans to introduce courses celebrating Pakistani languages, promoting the nation’s cultural and linguistic heritage.

Academic Policy Updates

In addition to program expansions, Lecturer Dr. Munir Khattak presented the proposed Undergraduate Rules, Regulations, and Procedures (URRP) 2025, which aim to benefit both ODL and traditional students. The proposal received unanimous approval from faculty members.

All recommendations made by the Faculty Board will be forwarded to the Academic Council and Executive Council for final approval.


These new initiatives mark a significant step toward modernizing higher education in Pakistan, empowering students with relevant skills and globally aligned academic programs.
