Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor Begin Filming Romantic Comedy “Abir Gulaal” in London
Pakistani star Fawad Khan and Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor have teamed up to shoot their upcoming romantic comedy, Abir Gulaal, set in picturesque locations around London.
Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, known for Chalti Rahe Zindagi, the film is produced by Indian Stories, A Richer Lens, and Aarjay Pictures. Production is scheduled to take place across the U.K. throughout October and November.
Director Bagdi shared her excitement about the film, describing it as a heartwarming story of two individuals who inadvertently help each other heal, with love developing as a natural outcome of their journey.
This collaboration between Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor is particularly noteworthy, as an unofficial ban on Pakistani artists working in Indian films has been in effect since 2016 due to political tensions between the two nations.
In 2023, however, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition seeking to formalize the ban, emphasizing that art, music, and culture transcend national borders and can foster peace and unity.
Fawad Khan, a well-loved figure in India, previously gained widespread popularity through Bollywood hits such as Khoobsurat (2014) and Kapoor & Sons (2016).
He also starred in international projects like Marvel’s Ms. Marvel (2022) and Pakistan’s highest-grossing film, The Legend of Maula Jatt (2022). While The Legend of Maula Jatt’s release in India is currently on hold due to objections from a fringe group, Khan’s global fan base remains strong. He recently appeared in the Zindagi series Barzakh, which premiered at Series Mania in 2023.
Vaani Kapoor, who received praise for her role in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui (2021), will also feature in upcoming projects, including Netflix’s crime thriller series Mandala Murders and Bollywood’s coming-of-age drama Badtameez Gill.
The producers of Abir Gulaal expressed their enthusiasm for the film, highlighting Fawad Khan’s worldwide popularity and the anticipation that his fans will embrace this new project.
They also noted that the on-screen chemistry between Khan and Kapoor is expected to captivate audiences with their charm and engaging performances.
