Police officers barred from taking lifts

LAHORE: The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has issued a directive prohibiting police officers from requesting or accepting lifts from citizens on major roads in Lahore.

The order specifically bans police personnel from hitching rides on Ring Road, GT Road, and Motorways. This decision comes in response to reports that some officers have been frequently seen stopping vehicles on highways to ask for lifts, which violates the police code of conduct.

According to the directive, the ban will be strictly enforced, and any officer found disregarding the rules will face disciplinary action. This measure aims to uphold professionalism within the police force and improve its public image.

In recent times, there have been multiple incidents of police officers seeking rides on key roads, which has led to concerns about the integrity and conduct of law enforcement personnel. This new policy is part of an ongoing effort to ensure that officers maintain the highest standards while serving the public.
