A large PTI convoy led by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister is on its way to Lahore for a planned rally. PTI supporters, carrying sticks and other equipment, have begun arriving at the rally site.
The convoy, which includes workers and leaders, is traveling along the Swabi route, with a heavy police presence reported along the way.
Stalls selling PTI-branded items such as caps and scarves have been set up en route, while the rally venue is being prepared with thousands of chairs. However, some PTI supporters allege that authorities are confiscating lights, generators, and speakers meant for the rally, leading to complaints from the party.
K-P CM Leading Convoy to Lahore
K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur is leading the convoy from K-P, which includes party members from different districts. A container with amenities for Gandapur, along with two other containers for party leaders, is part of the convoy. These containers also feature music equipment for playing party anthems.
As the convoy passed through the Swabi Interchange, more groups from across the province joined in, forming a larger procession toward Lahore. The convoy is reportedly prepared to face any obstacles, with some workers carrying sticks as part of their preparations.
PTI leaders have expressed concerns over police actions in Lahore. Provincial Assembly member Fazal Elahi stated that nothing would stop them from attending the rally. Meanwhile, K-P Information Adviser Barrister Saif criticized the arrest of several PTI workers and condemned the government’s actions, calling for respect for the party’s right to peaceful assembly.
Police Crackdown and Arrest Warrants
Earlier in the day, an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad issued non-bailable arrest warrants for CM Gandapur and other PTI leaders in relation to a case involving vandalism at the Judicial Complex. The court rejected Gandapur’s bail request and issued warrants for several others, while declaring PTI leader Umar Tanveer Butt an absconder.
Tensions Rise in Lahore
Ahead of the rally, Lahore has seen rising tensions, with reports of clashes between PTI supporters and police. The unrest has led to roadblocks and disruptions in parts of the city. Dozens of PTI workers have reportedly been detained, sparking protests in different areas.
In response, a petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking the release of detained PTI workers. The petition claims the detentions were unlawful and requests immediate action.
Despite the challenges, PTI remains determined to proceed with its rally, while the city braces for potential unrest amid heightened political tensions.
