Balochistan Imposes Section 144 Across Province for 30 Days
Quetta: The Balochistan government has imposed Section 144 across the province for 30 days, restricting public gatherings, rallies, demonstrations and the display of weapons.
The order took effect immediately from September 23, 2026, according to the provincial Home Department.
Gatherings of Five or More People Banned
Under the notification, gatherings of five or more people at public places have been prohibited.
The restrictions also apply to sit-ins, processions, rallies, demonstrations and other similar public assemblies.
Authorities have also prohibited the carrying, possession, display or use of weapons in public places unless specifically permitted under the law.
Face Coverings Also Restricted
The order includes restrictions on concealing or covering one’s face in public places through items such as masks, mufflers or other means that could prevent identification.
Law-enforcement agencies and district administrations have been instructed to enforce the restrictions across the province.
Officials said people violating the order could face legal action under the relevant laws.
Government Cites Security Concerns
The Balochistan Home Department said it had received reports about possible activities and gatherings that could affect public peace, law and order and the safety of citizens.
Home Department Adviser Babar Yousafzai confirmed that Section 144 would remain in force for 30 days.
He said the measures were intended to maintain public order and protect the lives and property of citizens.
The order was issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
Security Activity in Province
The restrictions come amid heightened security activity in several parts of Balochistan.
According to the report, security forces carried out intelligence-based operations in Quetta, Kech and other areas on Wednesday. Officials said 19 militants were killed during separate operations, while a military officer was also killed in an exchange of fire.
In another operation in Mastung, security forces said they killed nine militants after an alleged attack on a checkpost. Two more were reported killed during an operation in Turbat.
Third Province-Wide Order This Year
The latest notification marks the third province-wide imposition of Section 144 in Balochistan in 2026.
Similar restrictions were introduced for 30 days in May amid security concerns. The provincial government also imposed a separate province-wide order during Muharram in June as part of its security arrangements.
