Kelsey Mitchell Sets WNBA Scoring Record as Fever Beat Toronto Tempo

Kelsey Mitchell was surprised by a special celebration after setting a new WNBA single-season scoring record during the Indiana Fever’s 103-85 victory over the Toronto Tempo on Friday night.

Mitchell scored 33 points in the game and reached 1,034 points for the season, surpassing the previous record of 1,021 points set by A’ja Wilson for Las Vegas in 2024.

Mitchell Unaware of Postgame Celebration

Mitchell entered the Fever locker room after the game expecting a routine celebration but was surprised when confetti began falling and her teammates gathered around her.

The guard initially thought the celebration was for coach Stephanie White, before realizing that her teammates were honoring her record-breaking achievement.

“It was for me,” Mitchell said after putting the moment together.

Another WNBA Record for Mitchell

Mitchell’s performance also extended another remarkable streak.

She scored at least 20 points for the 25th consecutive game, extending her own WNBA record. Against Toronto, she shot 12 of 17 from the field and made 7 of 11 attempts from three-point range.

Mitchell entered the game averaging 25 points per contest this season. Only A’ja Wilson, averaging 26.1 points, had a higher scoring average.

Caitlin Clark Praises Mitchell

Fever teammate Caitlin Clark praised Mitchell for her outstanding season and said her achievements have not received enough attention.

“I don’t think people realize what she’s done this year and how insane it’s been,” Clark said.

Fever coach Stephanie White also highlighted Mitchell’s historic campaign, describing her performances as something extraordinary to witness.

“She’s playing at another level and it’s been really incredible to witness,” White said, adding that the team should appreciate the significance of what Mitchell is accomplishing.
