Harry Kane Open to NFL Kicking Career After Football

England captain Harry Kane is considering the possibility of becoming an NFL kicker after his football career, saying his experience with penalty kicks could help him make the transition to American football.

The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker has previously spoken about his interest in other sports, including golf and American football. He now believes an NFL career could be a more realistic option, although any move into the sport remains several years away.

Kane Sees NFL as a Realistic Option

Speaking at England’s training camp, Kane said he plans to explore the idea more seriously depending on how his football career develops over the next five or six years.

He explained that American football would be a more practical second career for him than professional golf.

Kane believes his experience taking penalties could provide a useful foundation for becoming an NFL kicker, although he acknowledged that switching from one elite sport to another would require extensive preparation.

Penalty Experience Could Help

Kane said penalty kicks involve a similar level of pressure and require a controlled kicking technique.

However, the England captain stressed that playing at the highest level of another sport is not as simple as it may appear while watching on television.

If he eventually decides to pursue an NFL career, Kane said he would be prepared to spend six months to a year training specifically for the role.

He also suggested that spending part of his football career in Major League Soccer (MLS) could potentially make it easier to combine the two sports because of their different seasons.

Soccer Players Have Made the Switch

There are already examples of footballers moving into American football.

Brandon Aubrey, currently a kicker for the Dallas Cowboys, was selected by Toronto FC in the first round of the 2017 MLS draft but did not make an official first-team appearance.

Another NFL kicker, Jake Bates, played college soccer before pursuing a career in American football.

Kane could therefore follow a path that has already been taken by athletes who have moved between the two sports.

Bayern Future Remains Kane’s Priority

Despite discussing a possible future in the NFL, Kane remains focused on his football career.

The striker is currently in talks with Bayern Munich over a new contract, with negotiations reportedly progressing.

Kane said he is happy at the German club and expects an announcement once the remaining details of the agreement have been settled.

For now, his focus remains firmly on football, while the possibility of an NFL kicking career remains a long-term idea
