Punjab Reportedly Seeks Reduced Mobile and Internet Speeds Ahead of Protests
LAHORE: The Punjab government has reportedly requested authorities to reduce mobile and internet service speeds from September 27 as security preparations continue ahead of planned political protests.
According to Geo News, the request has been made in connection with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s announced march towards Islamabad on September 27.
The proposed measure would involve slowing down mobile and internet services rather than imposing a complete suspension. However, authorities have not yet provided details about the specific areas that could be affected or the expected duration of any restrictions.
The reported request comes as part of broader security arrangements being prepared ahead of the planned political activity.
The Punjab government has also requested the deployment of Pakistan Rangers in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali to support law enforcement agencies in maintaining security.
Additional police personnel are also being deployed in preparation for the protests, particularly along routes that could be used by participants travelling towards Islamabad.
Further details regarding the proposed internet and mobile service measures are expected once the relevant authorities finalise the security arrangements.
