Alex Bregman Undergoes Tests After Being Hit by Foul Ball

CINCINNATI: Chicago Cubs third baseman Alex Bregman was taken to a hospital for medical tests after being struck in the face by a foul ball during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

The incident occurred in the fourth inning of the Cubs’ 9-1 victory at Great American Ball Park. Bregman was standing near the on-deck circle when a foul ball off teammate Michael Busch’s bat hit him on the left side of his face, below the eye.

Bregman Leaves Game After Injury

Bregman immediately covered his face and headed toward the Cubs’ dugout after being hit. He was later taken to the hospital for X-rays and a CT scan.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Bregman had swelling and a cut below his eye, along with some bleeding from his nose. The manager said the team was waiting for the medical results before making any decisions about the player’s availability.

Bregman later shared a photo on Instagram showing the swelling around his eye and thanked fans for their messages. He also indicated that he expected to return.

Cubs Await Medical Update

The Cubs had not immediately announced whether Bregman would miss upcoming games. His condition will be assessed after the results of his medical examinations.

The injury came as Chicago continues its push toward the MLB postseason. Bregman had contributed an RBI, a run and a walk before leaving Sunday’s game. He is batting .262 with 26 home runs and 89 RBIs this season.

Cubs Defeat Reds 9-1

Despite losing Bregman during the game, Chicago secured a convincing 9-1 victory over Cincinnati.

Pete Crow-Armstrong played a key role in the win, while the Cubs’ pitching and offense combined to keep the Reds under pressure throughout the contest.

Bregman’s medical update is expected to determine his availability as the Cubs approach the final stages of the regular season and prepare for the postseason.
