Medical Equipment Worth Over Rs. 10 Million Goes Missing from Famous Govt Hospital

Over Rs. 12 Million Worth of Equipment Reported Missing from Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital

Lahore: In a concerning development, valuable assets worth more than Rs. 12.1 million have reportedly gone missing from Jinnah Hospital, one of Lahore’s major public healthcare facilities.

According to reports, the missing items include operation theater tables, hospital beds, air conditioners, wheelchairs, and various furniture pieces, all crucial for patient care and hospital operations.

Inquiry Points to Possible Corruption

The Specialized Healthcare Department has taken swift action by issuing a show-cause notice to Dr. Shabbir Hussain, holding him responsible for the loss. A three-member inquiry committee found initial evidence indicating potential corruption and negligence.

Disciplinary Action Likely

The notice alleges that the disappearance of the medical equipment appears to be intentional, and it demands a satisfactory explanation from Dr. Shabbir within a specified period. Failure to respond adequately may result in disciplinary proceedings by the department.

Public Sector Accountability Under Spotlight

This incident has raised serious questions about asset management and oversight in public hospitals. It highlights the need for stronger accountability measures to prevent such losses in the future, especially in institutions serving the general public.
