Karachi May Experience Temporary Water Supply Disruption After Pumping Station Power Fault

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has announced that parts of the city may experience a temporary disruption in water supply following a power fault at the Dhabeji pumping station.

According to a KWSC spokesperson, the issue occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Sunday when a cable fault caused a power breakdown during the third phase of operations at the pumping station.

The spokesperson said K-Electric identified the problem and dispatched a technical team to carry out repair work and restore power as quickly as possible.

Due to the power outage, three pumps at the Dhabeji pumping station were temporarily shut down, resulting in an estimated 75 million gallons per day reduction in Karachi’s water supply.

KWSC stated that areas that may experience temporary water shortages include parts of North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, and Scheme 33.

The utility said it is coordinating closely with K-Electric to resolve the issue. Officials added that normal water supply is expected to resume once electricity is fully restored and all pumping units become operational again.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to use available water responsibly until regular supply is restored
