Commonwealth Games 2026: Emmanuel Eseme and Zoe Hobbs Win 100m Gold in Glasgow

GLASGOW: Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme and New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs delivered standout performances to win the men’s and women’s 100-meter titles despite challenging weather conditions at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Heavy rain throughout the evening created difficult conditions at Scotstoun Stadium, but Eseme produced an impressive run to claim the men’s 100m gold in 9.83 seconds, setting a new Commonwealth Games record.
The Cameroonian sprinter surpassed the previous Games record and said he remained focused despite the wet conditions, noting that all athletes competed under the same circumstances.
In the women’s 100m final, New Zealand’s Zoe Hobbs stunned a strong field by sprinting to victory in a personal-best performance. England’s Amy Hunt claimed the silver medal, while Australia’s Torrie Lewis secured bronze. All three athletes finished in under 11 seconds.
Hobbs described the victory as a dream achievement, saying winning both a personal best and a Commonwealth Games gold medal made the moment even more special.
Australia Continues Strong Swimming Campaign
Australia extended its dominance in the swimming competition, with Lani Pallister capturing the women’s 800m freestyle title after previously winning the 400m and 1,500m events. She also set a new Commonwealth Games record in the process.
Australian swimmers added several more gold medals, including victories by Jenna Forrester in the 200m individual medley and Flynn Southam in the men’s 100m freestyle. The Australian team also claimed gold in the men’s 4x100m medley relay with another Games record.
Other Highlights
Canada’s Olympic champion Camryn Rogers comfortably won the women’s hammer throw, while Australia’s Eleanor Patterson secured gold in the women’s high jump after weather delays extended the event.
In gymnastics, Canada’s Felix Dolci enjoyed another successful day by winning additional gold medals in the vault and horizontal bar events, further adding to his impressive medal collection.
Meanwhile, Ruby Evans earned a gold medal for Wales in the women’s floor exercise, concluding a memorable performance at the Games.
The Commonwealth Games continue to showcase top athletes from across the member nations as competitors battle for medals in athletics, swimming, gymnastics, and other sporting events.
