WTA Finals to Move to Charlotte NBA Arena From 2027

The WTA Finals will move to Charlotte, North Carolina, from 2027 as the women’s tennis tour looks to give its season-ending championship a larger global profile.
The tournament will be staged at Spectrum Center, home of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, under a three-year agreement covering the 2027, 2028 and 2029 editions.
The WTA and Charlotte Sports Foundation announced the new host city as part of a plan to establish a long-term home for the prestigious season-ending competition.
Charlotte to Host WTA Finals for Three Years
The agreement means Charlotte will host the WTA Finals for three consecutive years beginning in 2027.
The event brings together the leading eight singles players and eight doubles teams from the season-long WTA rankings. Matches are played in a round-robin format before the tournament moves into the knockout stages.
The 2026 WTA Finals, however, will take place at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California from November 8 to 15.
Tournament to Be Held at NBA Arena
Spectrum Center will provide the setting for the tournament in Charlotte. The venue is the home arena of the Charlotte Hornets and will allow the WTA to stage the Finals in a large indoor sports environment.
Additional activities are also planned around the tournament, including programming at the Charlotte Convention Center.
The WTA said the selection followed a competitive process and highlighted Charlotte’s sports infrastructure, business community and hospitality sector as factors in the decision.
WTA Seeks Bigger Profile for Women’s Tennis
WTA chair Valerie Camillo said the organisation wants the Finals to become one of the major annual events on the global women’s sports calendar.
The move comes as women’s sports continue to attract growing audiences, investment and commercial interest. The WTA said the Charlotte partnership is intended to create a broader event experience around the tennis competition rather than focusing solely on the matches.
The organisation also aims to strengthen fan engagement and the commercial profile of its biggest championship.
WTA Moves Away From Saudi Arabia
The Charlotte announcement follows changes to the recent hosting arrangements for the WTA Finals.
The 2025 edition was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, while the WTA announced that the 2026 tournament would instead be staged at Indian Wells.
The 2026 edition is scheduled to run from November 8 to 15, with the world’s leading singles and doubles players competing for the season-ending titles.
Charlotte Set for New Era of Women’s Tennis
The WTA’s decision gives Charlotte a three-year window to develop the Finals into a major annual sporting event in the United States.
With the world’s top players expected to compete, the tournament will combine elite tennis with wider entertainment, business and community activities.
The 2027 edition will therefore mark the beginning of a new chapter for the WTA Finals, while the 2026 championship remains scheduled for Indian Wells later this year.
