Pakistan, Türkiye Discuss Stronger Coordination Ahead of Key Bilateral Meetings
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called for closer coordination between Pakistan and Türkiye as both countries prepare for the upcoming Joint Commission and the eighth session of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC).
Dar made the remarks during a meeting with Türkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Irfan Neziroglu, where the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and discussed developments in the region.
Focus on Bilateral Cooperation
During the meeting, the Turkish ambassador briefed Dar on progress through various institutional mechanisms established to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s stated commitment to expanding engagement with Türkiye in priority areas and stressed the importance of coordination between relevant departments on both sides.
Pakistan and Türkiye have continued to use the HLSCC and related mechanisms to advance cooperation across areas including trade, investment, energy, defence, education and other sectors. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has also previously said the eighth HLSCC session is expected to be held in Türkiye.
Dar Emphasises Dialogue and Diplomacy
During discussions on the regional situation, Dar said Pakistan considers dialogue and diplomacy important for addressing disputes and promoting regional peace and stability.
Pakistan and Türkiye have maintained consultations on regional and international developments. The two countries also recently agreed to continue close cooperation through bilateral and multilateral channels.
Inquiry Ordered Into Document Attestation System
Separately, Dar took notice of media reports alleging irregularities in Pakistan’s apostille and document attestation system.
He constituted a three-member inquiry committee to examine the verification process at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The committee has been directed to investigate any alleged misuse or irregularities in the apostille and document attestation procedures. It will also review the role of courier companies involved in handling documents through the system.
The inquiry is intended to examine the reported issues and determine whether any irregularities occurred in the document verification process.
