Quetta Bans Sale of Loose Powdered Milk
Authorities in Quetta have imposed a ban on the sale of powdered milk in loose or unpackaged form across the city.
The decision was taken on the directives of the Balochistan chief minister following a meeting chaired by the Quetta deputy commissioner. Officials discussed concerns surrounding the sale of unpackaged powdered milk and the lack of important product information.
According to the district administration, loose powdered milk is often sold without details such as an expiry date, ingredients, and other information that consumers normally find on properly packaged products.
Authorities said the measure is intended to improve food safety and protect consumers, particularly children who may be affected by the use of improperly stored or unidentified milk products.
Shops Ordered to Stop Sales
Shopkeepers across Quetta have been instructed to immediately stop selling powdered milk in loose form.
The restriction also applies to medical stores, which have been directed not to sell unpackaged powdered milk.
Officials warned that businesses found violating the ban could face legal action, including possible arrest of responsible individuals and sealing of the premises.
Joint Teams to Monitor Compliance
The district administration has formed joint inspection teams comprising representatives from the food authority, health department, and district administration.
These teams will conduct inspections of shops, warehouses, and medical stores across Quetta to ensure compliance with the new directive.
Authorities said enforcement will continue across the city and that action will be taken against businesses found selling loose powdered milk.
Consumers have also been encouraged to check product packaging, expiry dates, ingredients, and other relevant information when purchasing powdered milk.
