Rachin Ravindra Doubtful for India Series After Shoulder Injury

New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra could miss the upcoming home series against India after suffering a shoulder injury during a promotional event.

New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Saturday that the 26-year-old dislocated his shoulder while attempting a diving catch during a commercial shoot involving the host broadcaster.

Ravindra Suffers Shoulder Dislocation

According to New Zealand team management, Ravindra landed awkwardly on a safety mat while filming and sustained the injury.

Medical examinations have ruled out major structural damage, but it remains uncertain whether the left-handed batter and spin bowler will be fit to feature in the upcoming five-match T20 series against India.

The T20 series is scheduled to begin on October 22, followed by five ODIs and two Test matches between the two sides.

New Zealand performance manager Mike Sandle described the incident as an unfortunate accident and said the priority is now Ravindra’s recovery.

He added that commercial activities involving players are agreed upon in advance and carried out with safety measures in place. New Zealand Cricket will also review its procedures for similar events in the future.

Busy Schedule Ahead

Ravindra has established himself as an important member of New Zealand’s teams across all three formats since making his international debut in 2021.

He has played 115 international matches for the Black Caps.

New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said the team will take a careful approach to Ravindra’s rehabilitation rather than rushing him back into action.

The India series will be followed by a four-Test tour of Australia, giving New Zealand a demanding international schedule over the coming months.

Walter said the heavy Test programme means Ravindra’s return will be managed carefully, with the focus on ensuring he is fully ready before returning to competitive cricket.
