PFA Seals Lahore Warehouse After Finding Expired Food Items Worth Rs20 Million

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed a warehouse in Lahore after officials recovered approximately 5.5 tonnes of expired food products valued at around Rs20 million.

The action was taken during an inspection in the Attari area of Nishtar Town under the supervision of PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed. The warehouse administration was also fined Rs1 million.

Expired Food Products Recovered

According to the PFA, officials found around 5,500 kilograms of expired food items, including chia seeds, chana papri, corn flour and other products. They also recovered approximately 400 kilograms of meat that was considered unsuitable for hygienic storage.

Authorities said some of the products were reportedly being prepared for distribution to consumers. The warehouse was also involved in supplying food products to customers in different parts of the country through online orders.

Multiple Food Safety Violations Found

During the inspection, officials reportedly found several violations, including missing supply records and other required documents.

The PFA also said that some product labels had not received the required approval. In addition, inspectors reportedly found insects and rodent droppings around storage racks.

The warehouse was also found to be lacking mandatory medical and training certificates for food handlers. Officials said previous instructions regarding hygiene and food safety had not been properly followed.

Warehouse Ordered Closed

Following the reported violations of the Punjab Pure Food Regulations, the PFA ordered the immediate closure of the warehouse.

PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed said the authority would continue inspections to improve food safety standards across Punjab and take action where violations are found.
