Dengue Cases Reach Seven in Rawalpindi as Anti-Dengue Operations Intensify
Rawalpindi has reported another dengue infection, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the city to seven during the current season.
The latest patient is a resident of Dhama Syedan who was taken to Holy Family Hospital and admitted to the facility’s dengue ward for treatment.
The previous dengue case was reported on September 9 from Asghar Mall Scheme.
Two Cases Reported in September
District Health Officer Preventive Dr. Jawad Zahid said two dengue cases have been recorded in Rawalpindi during September so far.
According to the health department, four cases were reported in July, while one case was detected in March.
Despite the recent increase, health authorities say the dengue situation in the city remains under control. Rawalpindi recorded 582 dengue cases during the same period last year, compared with seven cases reported so far this year.
1,400 Teams Conduct Dengue Surveillance
Authorities have stepped up preventive measures across Rawalpindi to identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
Around 1,400 teams are currently carrying out indoor and outdoor surveillance across different parts of the city. Health officials are focusing on areas where dengue larvae have been found in larger numbers.
The highest number of larvae detections has been reported in Misrial Road, Afshan Colony, and Allama Iqbal Colony in Rawalpindi Cantonment.
Other areas where significant larvae activity has been identified include Naseerabad, Morgah, Dhama Syedan, Pirwadhai, Dhamyal, Hazara Colony, Pindora, Dhoke Mangtal, Dhoke Ratta, and Chak Jalaldin.
More Than 145,000 Breeding Sites Addressed
As part of the ongoing anti-dengue campaign, teams have detected and eliminated dengue larvae at more than 145,572 locations, including residential areas and open spaces.
Health officials have also increased the number of field workers to strengthen surveillance and preventive operations across the city.
Dr. Zahid said finding and eliminating additional mosquito breeding locations would be important in reducing the risk of further dengue infections.
Action Taken Over Dengue SOP Violations
Authorities have also taken legal and administrative action against individuals and property owners found violating dengue prevention guidelines.
So far, 2,543 FIRs have been registered, while 652 buildings have been sealed. Officials have also issued 2,119 challans and imposed fines totaling Rs. 2.568 million.
The measures are part of the district administration’s efforts to ensure compliance with dengue prevention standard operating procedures.
Residents Urged to Prevent Stagnant Water
Health officials have urged residents to play their part in controlling dengue by keeping their homes, rooftops, water containers, and surrounding areas clean.
Residents are particularly advised to remove stagnant water, as standing water can provide suitable breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Authorities have emphasized that regular household checks, timely removal of standing water, and cooperation with surveillance teams can help limit the spread of dengue in Rawalpindi.
