Transporters Seek Immediate Release of Rs. 400 Million Compensation

The All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association has called on the government to release the promised Rs. 400 million compensation for transporters affected by restrictions on commercial vehicles.

Association President Muhammad Owais Chaudhry Advocate said the closure of the M1 and M2 motorways to commercial traffic had disrupted goods transportation and discouraged operators from sending vehicles toward Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir.

According to the association, more than 2,000 vehicles are currently held in different areas, including Islamabad, Taxila, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhelum, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Jatli and Sialkot.

The association has demanded the immediate release of loaded vehicles so that essential goods can continue moving through the affected routes.

For empty vehicles that remain detained, the transporters have proposed compensation of Rs. 20,000 per vehicle for each day of detention. They also urged the government to implement the previously announced Rs. 400 million compensation package without further delay.

Owais said transport operators were facing uncertainty as many vehicles had stopped traveling toward Islamabad and other affected regions. He warned that prolonged disruption could create difficulties for the wider supply chain.

The association said it had raised the issue with Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Islamabad police inspector general and other relevant officials.

However, Owais said transporters were still waiting for practical measures to address their concerns and provide relief to the affected operators.
