Punjab Sets October 15 Deadline for Local Roads Program

The Punjab government has set October 15 as the deadline for completing the Chief Minister Punjab’s Local Roads Program, with field teams directed to finish all remaining projects within the specified timelines.

Punjab Communications and Works (C&W) Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth issued the instructions while chairing a meeting to review progress on the road development program.

C&W Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar, the Special Secretary, Additional Secretaries and Chief Engineers attended the meeting, while Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers participated through video link.

Officials briefed the minister on the progress of ongoing projects and said the Highways Department remains on schedule to complete the Sohne Pind Sohniyan Rahwan Program in October.

The minister set September 30 and October 5 as additional targets for field teams working on various road projects. He also reiterated that the Local Roads Program should be completed by October 15.

Bharth instructed officials to carry out lane marking and other finishing work alongside road construction. He also directed Chief Engineers to regularly visit project sites and inspect both completed and ongoing schemes.

The Road Asset Management team was asked to begin checking the quality of completed roads. The minister also ordered a comprehensive assessment of 1,000 kilometers of roads covered under the program.

During the meeting, Bharth announced Phase II of the Local Roads Program in Punjab.

He said the provincial government was working to develop and improve the road network across Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, adding that the government was focusing on the quality and timely completion of road projects.
