Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-1 Sets New Operating Record

ISLAMABAD: Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-1 (C-1) has completed 427 consecutive days of operation during its 18th operating cycle, setting a new record for the longest uninterrupted operating period by a nuclear power plant in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), which operates six nuclear power plants in the country, announced the achievement in a statement.

The 325-megawatt C-1 remained in continuous operation throughout the cycle, while also recording strong performance indicators during the first half of 2026.

According to the PAEC, the plant achieved a World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Performance Indicator Index score of 100 during both the first and second quarters of 2026.

The commission said the performance reflected the efforts of engineers, scientists and other staff working at the Chashma Nuclear Power Generating Station.

PAEC added that the plant’s operational performance was supported by technical expertise, teamwork and adherence to established nuclear safety standards.

The latest milestone highlights the plant’s long-term operational record and its contribution to Pakistan’s electricity generation capacity.
